Sekondi, Dec. 27, GNA - Madam Portia Rockson, a Nursing Officer at the Kwesimintsim Polyclinic said exclusively breastfed children become more brilliant than their peers.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Madam Rockson appealed to breastfeeding mothers to pay special attention for the feeding of their infants so as to reduce their exposure to sicknesses. She said the hospital recorded two births between 0500 hours and 1215 hours on Christmas day and that are both were girls. Madam Rockson said pregnant and breastfeeding mothers must eat properly, adding that they must avoid herbal concoctions and self-medication because which could have adverse effects on the unborn child.

"The child could be born dead or with some deformities due to the high chemical content of drugs used during pregnancy," she added. At the Takoradi Hospital, Madam Kate Cobbinah, a nursing Officer attached to the Maternity Unit said two girls were delivered at the hospital on Christmas day and that they were doing well.

Mrs Mary Quantson, a Staff Midwife at the Effia Nkwanta Labour Ward, said the patronage of untrained Traditional Birth Attendants by some pregnant women, had resulted in many of them losing their babies.
