Wa, Dec. 26, GNA - The Christmas celebrations in the Wa municipality was peaceful and devoid of any nasty incidents as Muslims joined their Christian brothers and sisters in celebrating the yuletide in all the social-cultural aspects of the occasion.

Apart from the churches, where Muslims could not be seen worshipping with Christians, the social centres such as restaurants, drinking spots and night clubs were all patronised by people of both religions.

Ghana News Agency rounds revealed that the Christians either invited their Muslim friends to those social centres or they patronised the areas themselves in order not to be left out of the celebrations.

At Teegber, a catholic guest house at Wa, Christians were seen eating and drinking with their Muslim friends, while celebrants at the Quainoo Spot, a popular social centre in the Wa municipality ran short of chairs and malta Guiness for their numerous customers.

The Wa Community Centre, where GNA visited to find our how the X'mas was being celebrated, realised that, Muslim youth were even more than the Christians as they danced happily together till the early hours of the next day.

Tahiru Asimah, a popular barber at Wa, who was at the dance hall told GNA, that in the Bible, Jesus was said to have come to save the world, "and once am also in the world why don't I also celebrate his birthday" he asked in laughter.

At the Prisons Canteen situated at the heart of Wa municipality, people had to wait for others to leave their seats for them to take their turn in drinking something on the occasion.

Alfred Duorinya, who GNA spoke to at the canteen, explained that because the place was central, it was more accessible to people, who had no means of transport on their own to walk to the canteen.

As at the time GNA filed this story, the Wa police had not recorded any violent incident relating to the yuletide.

While some people attributed the peaceful celebration of the Christmas in the municipality to the maturity of the people in the region, others attributed it to the press conference organised by the regional police command on December 24, warning people against any kind of misbehaviour.

Earlier, church services were held throughout the municipality to climax the celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.
