Ghanaians in the UK donate to Police Service

Accra, Dec. 24, GNA - The Ghanaians Community in The United Kingdom (UK) has donated equipment valued at 27,000 pounds to the Ghana Police Service. A statement in Accra said the equipment comprises 1,000 each of batons, handcuffs, torchlight, raincoats and whistles; five new computers and 32 used bicycles. Money for the purchase of the equipment was realised through contributions to the "Five Pounds No Balance Appeal Fund", a charitable project launched by the Ghana High Commission in London last year to raise funds for the procurement of basic tools for the Ghana Police. The Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, Mr Isaac Osei handed over the equipment to Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector General of Police. Mr Osei thanked Ghanaians in the UK for heeding the call to donate to the Appeal Fund.
He said he was optimistic that the donation would help to enhance the operations of the Police Service in order to make the Service one of the best in the West Africa Sub-Region.
Nana Owusu Nsiah thanked the Ghana High Commissioner for initiating the Appeal Fund and appealed to all Ghanaian institutions and individuals at home and abroad to help the Police.
