Bolgatanga, Dec. 24, GNA - Six people died on the spot while many others sustained injuries when a Bawku bound passenger truck hit a tree on the Bolgatanga- Nangodi road.

The cause of the accident is not known, but according to the Police the driver of the vehicle, whose name was not immediately known and a teacher at Garu, near Bawku who was identified as Edward Abugbilla were among the dead.

Police Inspector R.M. Akpilima of the Upper East Motor Traffic and Transport Unit who made this known in Bolgatanga on Friday, said the injured were receiving treatment at the Bolgatanga Central Hospital, while the dead bodies have been deposited at the Hospital's mortuary. He urged the public to visit the Hospital and identify dead relations or friends for immediate burial, since the mortuary has no facilities for preserving corpses.

Mr Akpilima cautioned drivers to be extra careful on the road especially during the Christmas and New Year festivities to prevent road accidents and unnecessary loss of lives.
