GNA

Accra, Dec. 10, GNA- The US government on Friday congratulated the people of Ghana for a successful completion of presidential and parliamentary elections in a transparent, fair and peaceful manner. "This landmark event demonstrates to the sub-region, the entire African continent and the rest of the world that democratic values and institutions are firmly established in Ghana," the US Embassy in Accra said in a statement.

The US government commended the government and the Electoral Commission (EC) for their actions to ensure a successful voting process that allowed the will of the electorate to prevail.

"We look forward to working with President John A. Kufuor and his administration to pursue the common interests of the United States (US) and Ghana in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect."

The US government called on MPs to work constructively with one another and the President to address the issues important to the people and the country at large.

President Kufuor was re-elected with 52.75 per cent of the votes cast.
