Ofoase-Kokoben (Ash), Dec 9, GNA - All Catholic associations comprising the men's fellowship, men's association and Christian Fathers has come under a unified body called Catholic Men's Society. The formation of the unified group came after three days of deliberations at a national delegates' congress at Ofoase-Kokoben in the Amansie East District.

The delegates also unanimously chose Kumasi as headquarters of the new society.

Addressing the congress, Dr J.K. Asomanin, President of the Interim Steering Committee of the society, said the many men's splinter groups in the church did not augur well for the church and the formation of the unified society followed concerns raised by members. Subsequently, he said, a national conference had been slated for September 2005 to elect national officers.

Mr P.K. Osei-Wusu, President of the Kumasi Archdiocese Men's Fellowship, said the decision to form a unified men's society that would assume a national character was in the right direction as their women counterparts had already organized themselves into a national body. He commended Reverend Father Philip Opoku Nyame, parish priest of the Amakom Saint Paul's Catholic Church, for providing the society with an office comprising a conference room with toilet facilities.
