Registrar-General to accept application for trade marks for services

Accra, Dec. 1, GNA - The Registrar General said on Wednesday that it would, as from December 1, accept applications for the registration of trade marks for services (service marks).

This is because the Trade Marks Act, Act 664 of 2004, has extended protection hitherto only available for trademarks for goods, to trade marks for services.

A statement signed by Mrs Elizabeth Owiredu-Gyampoh, Registrar of Trade Marks, said applicants could use the existing trademark application form (Form TM No. 2) for the purpose.

"This will enable the business community, in particular trade mark owners, to enjoy the benefits of the extended protection provided under the Trade Marks Act," she said.
