Libyan Embassy present computers to EC

Accra, Dec 1, GNA - The Libyan Embassy on Wednesday presented ten sets of computers and accessories costing 150 million cedis to the Electoral Commission to enable it to conduct a successful election and to ensure speedy counting of votes in the forthcoming election. Mohamed Elgamudi, the Libyan Ambassador who presented the items said the donation formed part of his government's commitment to promoting democracy in Africa and also to help Ghana to conduct a successful election and gave the assurance that there would be more assistance in future.

He said, "the time for using manual methods in counting electoral results is over and Ghana must graduate above that standard." Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission received the items and thanked the Libyan Government for its support. He gave the assurance that the computers would be put to immediate use. He said, "this is a kind of co-operation we need in Africa to sustain democracy."
