Achiaman embarks on electrification project

Achiaman (GA), 30 Jan, GNA - Nii Achia II, Chief of Achiaman near Amasaman in the Ga District, has blamed the poor development of the area on some Chiefs and stool elders, who meddled in politics and land litigations.

"This situation normally resulted in petty squabbles, chaos, confusion and retarded progress and development," he said. He said development projects had eluded the people and called on the government to focus attention in the area. Speaking at a durbar at Achiaman as part of the activities to mark their Homowo festival and to discuss the development of the area at the weekend, Nii Achia pledged that the royal family would contribute ten percent of the cost of any development project in the area initiated by the Ga District Assembly.

He said the Achia Royal Family had procured 45 high-tension electricity poles estimated at 100 million cedis, to facilitate the electrification project in the area.

Mr. E. Okine, Secretary of the Royal Family, appealed to the District Assembly to provide the remaining 20 poles, to ensure the extension of power to the adjourning villages. He called assistance in the provision social amenities such as schools, KVIP, pipe-borne water and reshaping feeder roads in the area, saying, "we have been left in the dark for far too long".
