Falling standards of education is a concern - Director

Dormaa Ahenkro(B/A), Feb. 4, GNA - Mr Isaac Nsiah Edwards, the Municipal Director of Education, has decried the falling standards of education in the Dormaa Central Municipality, as it recorded its lowest ratings during last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

It dropped from 97.8 per cent in 2014 to 33. 7 percent in 2015.

He attributed the low performance to the inability of students to revise properly as many erroneously thought they could depend on leaked questions.

Mr Nsiah Edwards made this known at the first ordinary meeting of the first session of the Dormaa Municipal Assembly.

He said only nine out of 144 basic schools in the area, scored 100 per cent, whilst 26 of them obtained zero per cent.

The Municipal Director of Education expressed optimism that the current standards of education in the area would see an improvement noting that the current picture represented a true reflection of the state/standard of education in the area.

He said the current standards of education should remain of paramount interest for all stakeholders including teachers, parents, opinion leaders, reiterating that they would all work together to improve the situation.

The Municipal Education Director said as a way of curbing the poor standard of education, he has instructed opinion leaders and assembly members to report teachers who failed to comply with the directive to report in their various schools by 0730hrs every week day.
