Mampong-Akwapim (E/R), Nov. 18, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor's campaign for re-election was given a boost when ecstatic teeming supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lined up along the roads in various towns on the Akwapim Ridge to give him rousing welcome. Milling crowds from Kitase, Aburi, Ahwerease, Tutu, Mampong, Larteh, Akropong and Adukrom, cheered when President Kufuor riding in an open Ford vehicle responded to their cheers with the victory sign.

President Kufuor addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Mampong-Akwapim, he said: "Ghanaians honoured me four years ago in 2000 to become the President of Ghana. The first term of my stewardship has ended and I am seeking a renewal of the mandate this year to continue with the Positive Changes the NPP has brought into the socio-economic and body politic of the country."

"I hope with the enthusiasm and support Ghanaians have shown, you will renew the mandate of the NPP," he said.

President Kufuor said within the past four years the Government had laid a solid foundation for an accelerated economic growth during the second term of the Government.

President Kufuor asked the supporters of NPP to campaign for massive votes for both the Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates of the Party.

He said the Positive Change Chapter Two of the NPP's Manifesto for 2004 Elections could only be implemented efficiently and effectively when both the Presidential Candidate and the Parliamentary Candidates were voted into power to form the Executive and Legislative arms of the next Government in Ghana.

Nana Out Pabi IV, Chief of Mampong-Akwapim commended the Government for the rehabilitation of the Pantang - Mamfe road to boost tourism and socio-economic development of the area.

He said the dilapidated court building at the town was being rehabilitated, adding: "With such developments to improve the status of Mampong-Akwapim there is no way the citizens will let you down. Let us all vote to return the NPP to power."

President Kufuor, who addressed similar durbars at Mamfe - Akwapim, Larteh - Akwapim and Akropong-Akwapim all in the Akwapim North District, also introduced the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Akropong, Mr William Ofori Boafo to them.

At Abiriw and Adukrom, he introduced the Okere Parliamentary Candidate, Mr Brandford Adu to the people.
