Ghanaians urged to eschew divisive tendencies

Accra, Nov 13, GNA - Maulvi A. Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary in-charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, on Saturday urged Ghanaians to divest themselves of rancour, acrimony and divisive tendencies and work together to build a strong nation.

He said considering the great potential that Allah has endowed the country with, there was no doubt that whatever level of progress and prosperity other nations of the world had achieved Ghanaians are capable of achieving the same.

Maulvi Adam said this in a sermon at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Conference Centre to mark 'Eid-ul-fitr' that brought to end 30 days of fasting. Fasting in the month of Ramadhan has the primary objective of instilling in Muslims discipline, self-control, tolerance and above all, the spirit of repentance, forgiveness and goodwill towards their neighbours.

The Ameer said these were qualities that constitute solid blocks for the building of a peaceful, harmonious, caring and prosperous society. "As we approach the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, we should be guided by these qualities to realize that as Ghanaians, we owe it as a duty to ensure that we conduct ourselves in a manner that will not disturb the relative peace and harmony that we enjoy in the country."

He said: 'it is not only a civic duty but also a religious duty' for all Ghanaians to join hands, irrespective of their ethnic, political and religious differences to go through peaceful, clean, free, fair and transparent elections, free from recrimination, intimidation and violence.

Maulvi Adam said this would guarantee for us and posterity happiness and international acclaim.

He later led the congregation to pray for unity, peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.
