Government pledges 300 million cedis for hostel

Adeiso (E/R), Nov. 12, GNA - The Government on Friday pledged 300 million cedis towards the construction of a girl's hostel for the Adeiso Senior Secondary School in the West Akim District of the Eastern Region. President John Agyekum Kufuor, who made the pledge, commended the School's Authorities for their performance, which made it possible for the School to place 34 in the league of Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) in 2003.

He said the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports would be directed to give special attention to the School. President Kufuor was responding to an appeal made by Barimah Asare Oduro, Chief of Adeiso at a durbar the Chiefs and people of the area organised as part of the two-day tour of the President to the Eastern Region.

He said the Government would build a new Police Station at Adeiso. Nana Oduro commended the Government for providing 116 million cedis towards the water project in the town.

Addressing a rally at Asamankese in the West Akim District, President Kufuor again pledged 200 million cedis for the construction of a girl's hostel at Asamankese Senior Secondary School. He said a Ghana Television Booster Station in the town, which was abandoned, would be rehabilitated.

Osabarima Kwaku Amoah II, Chief of Asamankese, appealed for the construction of drains to check flooding, upgrade facilities at the Government Hospital and the Booster Station and expedite work on the ongoing water project in the town.

He said the people had embraced the national Health insurance Scheme. President Kufuor introduced Nana Asare koranteng as the New Patriotic Party parliamentary Candidate for the Lower Akim Constituency. 12 Nov. 04
