Jerry Attacks Kufuor, GBC

By Gye Nyame Concord
Says Prez Kufuor pairs up with GBC against Mills campaign programmes With less than a month for the parliamentary and presidential elections to be over, former President Rawlings has blatantly accused the management of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) of devoting substantial media coverage to campaign programmes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He says they connived with President Kufuor to stop showing NDC presidential candidate John Evans Atta Mills campaign programmes on their network.
This, according to the former President, was an orchestrated attempt to prepare the minds of Ghanaians in order for the NPP to create impressions of having larger crowd than the NDC and to rig the forthcoming elections.
Speaking at the Greater Accra Regional Rally at Mantse Agbona in Accra last Saturday, ex-president Rawlings cautioned thousands of the party supporters and gurus that they should be alert of the NPP strategies to rig in the December elections.
According to him, the crowd which follow Mills was extremely greater than that of President Kufuor and that Greater Accra will come to a standstill when Prof Mills tours through some parts, but GBC will refuse to show this.
He claimed there were calculated moves by the NPP to destabilise their rally and that it did not materialize. He cited several warning shots at the areas the Greater Accra Regional Minister and arrest of number of the party members prior to the Saturday's rally.
He made his often unsubstantiated claim that the NPP's bad legacy of killing Ya-Na Yakubu Andani and others coupled with mismanagement of state funds are clear indications that the NDC will win this year's elections.
On his part, the presidential candidate of the party, Prof John Evans Atta Mills, questioned why the country NPP had declared HIPC could manage to provide fuel for about 30 to 40 cars alongside the presidential convoy anytime President Kufuor travels. He was of the view that such money could be used to sponsor the education of underprivileged children in the country.
Prof Mills also challenged the NPP administration to come out with current information on the CNT loan for Ghanaians to know what they have done.'' Is the hairdressing salon closed down'' he questioned.
