More than 3,000 cassava farmers registered at Techiman

Techiman, (B/A) Nov. 11, GNA- More than 3,000 cassava farmers have been registered by the Techiman Municipal Assembly as members of the Techiman Cassava Growers Association.

The farmers who would own about 30 per cent of the Cassava and Allied Food Company (CAFCO) shares expressed their determination to solve difficulties farmers face in marketing their produce.

Mr Isaac Osei-Antwi, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman said the President's Special Initiative (PSI) on cassava chips pellets factory was to be established at Techiman.

Mr Osei-Antwi noted that the establishment of the factory would create more jobs and improve upon the living standards of the people. He said a tomato processing promotion center is under way in Techiman and that it would further lessen the marketing problems of farmers during bumper harvests.

Mr Osei-Antwi announced that the Municipal Assembly had supplied about 24,000 snails free of charge to 100 farmers and provided grass cutter cages to 17 grass cutter farmers in the municipality. He said a total of 6,000 bags of cocoa fertilizers have been distributed to cocoa farmers adding that, the exercise would continue for the next four years.

He commended the government for bringing about various forms of development projects to the area.
