Graduate Patriotic Front Unhappy About Ghana's Maintenance Culture

The leadership of GRAPAF was shocked to be met with the information that the President of the Land was using state resources to travel with a whole entourage to commission a renovated project (The adome bridge) which cost us approximately GHS 54 million as a country.

We believe that as a country, renovation should be a progressive behaviour so that we don't wait for our national edifice to deteriorate beyond its usefulness and spend huge sums to renovate after which we will use additional resources to commission just for political gain.

We are by this Statement in no way suggesting that the renovation was unnecessary since we know how important the bridge is to Ghana, but if a president who once said "any government that praises itself for building schools, roads and other infrastructure is glorifying itself in 'mediocrity'", is the one commissioning a renovated bridge, then it will not be far fetched to wake up tomorrow and be told that the President is commissioning a patched 'pothole'.

Again we will be glad if the Ministry of Roads and Highways as well as the Parliament of Ghana can furnish the good citizens of Ghana what actual work was done on the bridge to merit the almost GHS 54 million and the procedure for the selection of the company which won the contract.

As we expect government to give us realistic prices for construction projects, we will also humbly ask that our maintenance culture as a country must be seriously considered.

Ghana needs it's patriotic citizenry to have a mentainance culture.
