Accra, Dec. 15, GNA - There was display of rich Ghanaian culture and dance at this year's Ghana Carnival 2015 held at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The celebration started with a float from the Obra spot, Kwame Nkrumah circle through the Ring road to the Osu Oxford street and back to the Black Star square with most participants in carnival costume.

The event was held under the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, in collaboration with the Ghana Centre for Carnival Arts and the UK Centre for carnival.

The two day event brought together amalgams of traditional dance groups, brass bands and carnival groups to display their unique dance forms and culture.

The event on the theme: 'Promoting the Ghana identity and culture through carnival' was aimed at diversifying Ghana's tourism, highlighting the country's culture, building a link between the creative arts and other sectors of the economy.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, called on Ghanaians to develop their own cultural and brand identity to attract foreigners into the country.

She said there was the need to rebrand the cultural products of people for socio-cultural development.

She said the Ghana Carnival sought to promote the country's culture and identity for national development; and also to create the enabling environment for domestic tourism to thrive.

Cultural troupes from the 10 regions of the country were present to perform and showcase the values and identities of their areas.

The Ghana Carnival was instituted in 2013 and celebrated annually to boost tourism, culture and creative arts in the country.
