– Adjudged Best In West Africa

The third locally trained heart surgeon has passed the final part two examination of the West African College of Surgeons held in Ibadan, Nigeria, last month.

Dr Frank Edwin, 36, follows the footsteps of Dr Lawrence A. Sereboe, who became the first locally-trained heart surgeon four years ago, and Dr Mark Mawutor Tettey, who passed out last year.

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has also been adjudged the best specialist-training centre in West Africa by the college.

This was after the college had assessed and analysed the training facilities, structured programmes, as well as the results of candidates who are presented by the hospital for the examination by the college.

Rudolph Darko, Head of Surgery, together with top executives of both the hospital and post graduate studies disclosed this in an interview in Accra yesterday.

The assessment was done after the October 2004 fellowship in Nigeria.
