Parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress in the Klottey Korle constituency, Dr. Ezenator Agyeman Rawlings, has sponsored a dual-sex twins to receive quality education.

The twins, Hassana Musah and Fuseina Musah, who are two and half years old, are the children of Zainabu Musah, who had braced the odds to migrate to Accra in search of menial jobs as head porter.

Dr. Agyeman Rawlings’ kind gesture of reaching out to little Hassan and Fuseina was in response to an initiative by the Pamela Bridgewater Project referred to as ‘Distance Adoption’ programme, which, encourages well-meaning and philanthropists to adopt and provide quality education to the children of disadvantaged kayayeis, who are engaged in menial jobs.

During a ceremony to support the project in Accra, the parliamentary candidate expressed her happiness as a mother to be part of a programme of supporting girls in the society.

She revealed that she has always desired to reach out to the kayayeis and other disadvantaged women in the country.

Dr. Agyeman Rawlings first showed her love for humanity when she went all out to show affection to the victims of the June 3 flood and fire disaster in Accra.

The project director of the Ambassador Pamela Bridgewater Project, Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, explained that the ‘Distance Adoption’ programme is to offer philanthropists the opportunity to adopt kayayeis.

Adopted children of kayayeis would continue to live with their original families in the north, where they would be enrolled in schools, whiles their adopters foot their educational bills.

“The kayayei house help is the worst form of modern slavery one can imagine and our project is determined to work with minded persons and institutions to stop this slavery” he said.

Mr. Alhassan used the opportunity to urge all women not to be intimidated when contesting for any parliamentary seat in any part of the country. “The Ambassador Bridgewater Projects needs more women in parliament for a better kayayei campaign” he added.

The Project presented a certificate of honour to Dr. Ezenator Agyeman Rawlings for her milestone support to victims after the June 3 disaster that shook the country.
