Larteh-Akuapem (E/R), Nov. 2, GNA - The Rotary Club of Accra has provided 2.750 million cedis for the provision of water to the Larteh Methodist Junior Secondary School (JSS).

Nana Asiedua Addo, a Rotarian, presented the cheque to the school at its second Open Day at Larteh on Saturday.

Mr Yamoah Ayisi of the Akuapem North District Directorate of Education, called on parents to support the development of the school. He said it was only when such support was coming that the school could help to produce people who would come out to contribute to the development of Larteh and Ghana in general.

Dr Wordsworth Odame Larbi, Technical Director, Lands, Ministry of Lands and Forestry, an old student of the school, called on parents to have time for their children and their schools.

He explained that the days when parents left their children in schools and expected the schools alone to mould their character was past and parents needed to play a role in educating their children.

Earlier in a welcoming address, the headmistress of the school, Ms Dina Theresa Aryetey, said due to the improvement in the academic performance of the school, many parents were enrolling their children into the school, which she said called for expansion in the facilities. She said the school management had decided to construct one more classroom to accommodate the large number of applicants to the school.

Ms Aryetey appealed for re-roofing of the leaking old blocks, painting and provision of additional furniture.

She appealed to parents, old students of the school and well-wishers to come to the aid of the school.

Ms Aryetey expressed the appreciation of the school to individuals and organisations that had supported the development of the school over the years.
