Food handlers screened at Techiman

Techiman (B/A), Oct. 29, GNA- Five hundred and two out of three thousand food handlers who were screened at Techiman have been found to be suffering from typhoid fever.

Mr Abdul Karim, Techiman Municipal Environmental Health Officer who told the Ghana News Agency in an interview however said all the patients have been treated.

Mr Karim said the rationale behind the screening was to ensure proper hygiene and environmental cleanliness of all food handlers in the area.

He warned that no food vendor would be permitted to operate in the municipality without a medical certificate.

He said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MOLG&RD) had instituted an award for any district, municipal and metropolitan capital which would be adjudged the best in environmental cleanliness and urged the people not to litter refuse into drains and gutters.
