Theresa Tagoe To Lose Ablekuma South Seat

The NPP MP for Ablekuma South constituency, Theresa Amerley Tagoe, will lose her seat by a very wide margin to the NDC's Nii Adama Morrison come December 7th this year.

Theresa Tagoe, who is seeking a third mandate from her constituents to represent them in the legislature has so much incurred the displeasure of thousands of NPP faithfuls with her insulting and abrasive approach to politics so much so that they have vowed to prove to her that minus their votes, she would not have been where is now.

Theresa Tagoe emerged as NPP parliamentary candidate through what has generally been accepted to be one of the most fraudulent primaries, at which there was no representation from the Electoral Commission. In spite of the questionable nature of the primaries, her candidature has received the blessing of the NPP's Regional Executives led by Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and R.O. Solomon. These regional executives, according to NPP sources, are causing a lot of mess in the party by either imposing candidates or organizing "huhudious" primaries.

Theresa Tagoe has further worsened her plight by insulting and harassing her opponents, notably amongst them one Bruce-Appiah and Charles Biney. The final nail that Theresa Tagoe drilled into her coffin was when she got the castle to force Bruce-Appiah a former Assembly man and the popular choice of the NPP supporters in the constituency to withdraw at the very last minute a suit he had filed at an Accra High Court challenging the eligibility of Theresa Tagoe to hold herself up as the elected NPP candidate of the constituency.

According to one Kwesi Amankwa who spoke to The Lens, they, the foot soldiers of the NPP are not happy with the behaviour of Bruce-Appiah since his action can be likened to a sheperd who has led his sheep astray. He however stated that whether Bruce-Appiah withdraws or not, Theresa Tagoe will still not win the seat since her arrogant and insulting attitude and her inability to bring any development to the constituency is enough reason to vote her out. He went further to conjecture that if it is the case that Bruce-Appiah has been given an amount of ¢200 million as it is being rumoured, then he will suffer the consequences of selling his conscience sooner rather than later.

In the words of one Yaa Manu who was very angry and screaming on top of her voice, "If Kufuor and the castle will come and vote for Theresa Tagoe on December 7th we shall see. My sister if Kufuor is not careful we will not vote skirt and blouse in Ablekuma South; we will give both the presidential and parliamentary to the NDC. We don't want Theresa Tagoe and we mean it.

Ablekuma South which used to be the second largest constituency after Manhyia but now ranks as the single largest after the breaking down of Manhyia into three constituencies to give the NPP an unfair advantage in the Ashanti Region, has since 1996 been a stronghold of the NPP but is set to fall to the NDC because of the many graves that Theresa Tagoe has dug for herself.

Interestingly, last Wednesday the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, was greeted with jeers and boos as he drove through the streets of Dansoman on his way from Tunga where he had been meeting the Moslems in that community. Among the 'choice' epithets hurled as he and his convoy drove by were "Kufuor nie, kronu nie", Kufuor nie, ewi nie", and "Judas, who killed the Ya-Na?"

Coming events, as they say, cast their shadows. Strong signals on the ground point to a classic case of "Moko aya ni moko aba keke, that's all".
