Chiana (U/E), Oct. 25, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Sunday said the Government would consider the creation of another district in the Kassena-Nankana District in the Upper East Region. He said the geographical positioning and population of the area should be taken into account before the district could be created. "It is just a matter of time." Therefore, the chiefs and people in the area should exercise patience, he said.

President Kufuor was responding to an appeal made by the chiefs and people at a durbar held in his honour at Chiana on the first day of his three-day official visit to the Region.

He asked the people to exercise patience also on the upgrading of the Chiana Health Centre, adding: "When the criteria for the creating of a district is fulfilled a district hospital will follow." President Kufuor said efforts would be made for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to assist with the upgrading of the Chiana Senior Secondary School.

The Chiana-Pio, Pe Roland Ayagitam, the Paramount Chief of Chiana Traditional Area, had appealed to the Government for the creation of a new district, upgrading of the local senior secondary school and health centre in his welcoming address. He also appealed for irrigation facilities to ensure all-year- round farming.
