Accra, Adenta, Oct 23, GNA - The people of Adenta, Madina, Pantang and surrounding areas would have reliable potable water supply to their homes by the end of November.
Officials of the Ghana Water Company told Vice President Aliu Mahama when he inspected the progress of work on the Adenta Water Project as part of a one-day tour of Madina, Adenta and Ashalley Botwe. The Government is spending about 10 billion cedis from the HIPC Benefit Fund to source water from Dodowa to these communities, which have experienced acute water crisis over the years. The project started in June.
Vice President Mahama urged those working on the project to endeavour to complete the work on schedule to bring relief to the people.
He also inspected work on the Ashalley Botwe Water Project, where the Ministry of Works and Housing has supported 10 communities with one billion cedis to undertake the project.
The leadership of the communities, which has levied every household 500,000 to sponsor the six billion-cedi-project, has also received 200 million cedis from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
Vice President Mahama commended them for their communal spirit, saying the Government would support such initiatives to solve developmental problems.
Addressing durbars held in his honour at Madina and Ashalley Botwe, the Vice President advised the people to give their children quality education as a catalyst for self-advancement and the eradication of poverty.
The people of Madina had commended the Government for constructing a two-storey primary school block to increase access to education. The Vice President said it was one of the more than 700 school blocks constructed across the country in the past three years to improve education in all areas.
The Government, he said, had executed many projects in education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, energy and private sector development to better the lots of Ghanaians.
He asked them to contribute towards the peaceful campaign and electioneering process by being tolerant of their political rivals and listening to their views without fighting them.
The Vice President had earlier prayed at the Madina Mosque where he advised Muslims to resist any attempt to use them for violent and negative political campaigns and activities.
He also inspected the one-kilometre Madina Zongo Link Road and urged the contractor to do better job on both the road and the drainage.
