Kumasi, Oct. 27, GNA - The Most Reverend Titus Awotwi Pratt, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has underlined the need for the political leadership to ensure that appointment to public offices is based strictly on competence.
That, he noted, was important to bring efficiency into the management of the nation's resources.
He said everything must be done to overcome 'nepotism', adding that, 'we should put people where they are qualified to be without any selfish consideration'.
The Most Rev Awotwi-Pratt was preaching at an induction service held for the newly elected Diocesan Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, the Right Rev Christopher Nyarko Andam at the Wesley Cathedral.
He pointed out that Ghana had suffered enough because of the inefficiency and under performance of its public institutions and said that would have to stop.
He made reference to damning revelations at the Public Accounts Committee's sittings and said the acts of omission and commission leading to loss of huge amounts of money clearly showed that some people were just not qualified to be at where they were.
He reminded his colleague pastors to do more to transform the society by teaching the true gospel.
They should help people to lead noble and pious lives as they worked together to uphold 'our common humanity'.
The Rt. Rev Andam pledged to promote unity of the church and work hard to sustain it on the path of growth.
Until his elevation, he was the Diocesan Synod Secretary and would now serve a six-year term.
