Offinso (Ash), Oct 21, GNA - The Offinso South Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled Mr Joseph Kwasi Kuma from the Party for his decision to contest the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

Mr Kuma, former District Chief Executive for Offinso in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime, who defected to the NPP in August this year, was under a two-year probation before his full membership status in the NPP could be confirmed.

Mr Kofi Awuah Amoako, the NPP Constituency Secretary, at a press conference at Offinso on Wednesday, said the decision by Mr Kuma to contest the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate indicated his disloyalty.

The Constituency Secretary said Mr Kwadwo Sarfo, NPP Member of Parliament for the Offinso South, has already been elected as the Party's Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency.

Mr Amoako said Mr Kuma's decision was an attempt to break the front of the NPP and the Party Executive had, therefore, expelled him for his suspicious character.

He said the NPP was a united political entity and considered members who decided to contest elections as independent candidates as opposing forces to the Party.

Mr Amoako advised Mr Kuma to desist from using the name of the Party to spread false messages to the electorates since such an exercise was illegal.

Mr Amoako appealed to members and supporters of the Party in the constituency to be steadfast and to support the NPP to win Election 2004.

The Constituency Party Executives, NPP Committee of Elders, representatives of polling stations, chairmen and zonal co-coordinators from the eight zones in the constituency attended the press conference.
