OCT 10, 2015 LISTEN

For a known ordinary card bearing New Patriotic Party [NPP] member to attend a meeting of the National Democratic Congress [NDC], or vice versa often hardly happens without shirt pulling, hecklings and name calling.

Even to the point of grabbing the microphone and asking critical questions will never happen without receiving boos and jeers from the other side.

But in a developed country like Canada which understands democracy so well, it is common where opposition party members can freely attend meetings of their opponents and freely asks critical questions and go home untouched at the end of the day.

So it was not surprise for a card bearing member NDC in Toronto to attend the town hall meeting which was held by the NPP Toronto-Chapter recently where the member of parliament MP for Asin central Mr. Kennedy Agyapong addressed members of the party and Ghanaians in general in Greater Toronto Area [GTA].

It happened during the interaction segment of the meeting where the card bearing member of the NDC was given the opportunity to ask a critical question.

some members of the NPP initially murmured when the opportunity was given to the NDC member to ask his question.

But Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, seized the opportunity to pray on the members to allow the NDC man which they did allow him to ask a critical question.

Daring to know, the NDC member asked a critical question as to what the NPP government will do to improve the lot of Ghanaians if Nana Akufo Addo is elected to form the next government.

According to him, some of they NDC members including him were disappointed about their own party [NDC] and government but were also not sure as to what an NPP government will do to better their lot.

Here it came as a surprise to all when before answering the NDC member, the Asin Central MP asked the gathering to give a round of applause to the NDC man which they did and asked him to join the NPP if frustrated in NDC to enjoy the freedom of expression and development as demonstrated to him at the town hall meeting.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong first mentioned the enabling environment NPP government under former president J.A.Kufuor created for business and economic boom during his eight years in office.

He went on to pen down all the feeder roads, major high ways as well as schools that were constructed during his tenure and boost he gave to agricultural sector where cocoa farmers were given the needed government support.

"For the first time in the history of Ghana under NPP government under president Kufuor, banks were granted loans to individuals to transact business whiles NDC government competed with individuals to get loans from the banks" he observed.

The Asin Central MP noted how president Kufuor's NPP government created the National Youth Employment Programme NYEP to provide jobs for the jobless only for NDC government to come and create National Unemployment Association which is threatening the economy of the country at present.

"Look at the National Health Insurance Scheme NHIS which he created to cater for the health needs of the people which were hailed by every Ghanaian before NDC took over power from Kufuor.

"The NDC collapsed it by using it as guarantee to deceive Togolese, Ivorian's and Burkinabe's to register in Ghana and vote for the NDC and receive free medical care in return" he challenged.

Each and every point Kennedy Agyapong made and explanation he gave to an issue saw the NDC member nodding his head in agreement whiles NPP members cheered the MP on to deliver the message.

At the end of the interaction, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong asked the party members to arm themselves with the information of massive development Ghana enjoyed during the eight years of NPP government and embark on house to house campaign to win the hearts of the undecided to vote for NPP come 2016 for it to emerge victorious.

Accordingly, there are a lot of Ghanaians who are frustrated by the incompetent NDC government under president Mahama which has left them undecided but are being deceived by the same government that NPP government won't be able to better their lot.

The town hall meeting came to an end with the NPP members and the NDC member going home untouched as Kennedy Agyapong urged NPP members to open their arms to welcome all who are frustrated under president Mahama for them to enjoy the freedom of development when NPP comes back to power in 2017.
