Akuafo retains Cowbell Inter- Halls Cross Country trophy

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA - Akuafo Hall retained the University of Ghana Cowbell Inter-Halls Cross Country trophy they won last year when they scored 193 points, to win this year's competition held at Legon on Saturday.

Legon Hall came second with 230 points. Sarbah Hall took the third position with 342 points, while Commonwealth Hall placed fourth with 471 points.

Akuafo also emerged champions in the Ladies event with 35 points, Volta placed second with 80 points, while Sarbah came third with 71points with the fourth position going to Legon Hal with 136 points. In the individual event, Diana Akua Ahenkora of Volta Hall broke the old record of 42 minutes 57 seconds set by Phyllis Brantie of Akuafo Hall last year, with a new record of 42 minutes 17 seconds to win the Ladies event.

Akuafo's Eunice Edem Semordzi came second, while Kelsi Bock of Legon placed third.

Cephas Delalorm of Akuafo Hall emerged the new champion by winning the event with 59 minutes, 42 seconds pushing Hall Mates, Prince Charles and Richard Dasi Addopleh to the second and third positions respectively.

Professor Ofori Sarpong, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana Legon, praised Promasidor Ghana Limited for sponsoring the competition for the third time.

He said a Sports Directorate for the University would soon be created where students could take two credits in sports. This he said would help whip up the interest of the students in sports.

Mr Festus Tettey, Communications Director of Promasidor Ghana Limited was happy about the sportsmanship exhibited by the participants. He said the company would continue to support the university to help promote a healthy nation.
