Kwabre district assembly fails to elect new presiding member

Mamponteng (Ash), Oct. 14, GNA-The Kwabre District Assembly on Tuesday failed to elect a new Presiding Member (PM) after three rounds of balloting.

None of the three contestants, the incumbent PM, Dr A.K. Asante, Mr Samuel Boakye-Ansah and Mr Oppong Kyei-Baffour, could obtain the two-third majority at the end of the three rounds of voting conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Dr Asante polled 29 votes in the second round, Mr Kyei-Baffour, 24 votes and Mr Boakye-Ansah, seven votes.

In the third round, Dr Asante had 27 votes, Mr Kyei-Baffour 23 votes and Mr Boakye-Ansah, 10 votes.

Mr Edward Frimpong-Manso, the Kwabre District Coordinating Director, acting as the PM, called for the postponement of the voting to another time to be fixed by the assembly during which time members would have reflected on their positions. Government commended for creating Kwabre West constituency Buoho (Ash), Oct 14, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asamoah, New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Kwabre West, has congratulated the Electoral Commission (EC) for creating the Kwabre West Constituency.

He said the Former Kwabre Constituency was too big to allow for any effective development and this affected particularly the people of Kwabre West.

The Parliamentary Candidate was addressing the chiefs and people of Nkukua-Wioso and Nkukua-Buoho at separate meetings at which he was introduced to them.

Mr Asamoah, who is the former Judicial Secretary, said he was not going to promise them any projects but would work hard as expected of him and would, therefore, need their support.

He told them that he would not use his position as MP if voted into power to promote litigation at law courts but rather use the position to settle disputes amicably out of court, saying, "I have worked at the law courts but I fear suits".

Mr Asamoah appealed to the youth in the area to comport themselves before, during and after the elections so that they did not get themselves into any trouble.

Nana Akofra Bediako II, Asantehene Kyeremahene and chief of Nkukua-Buoho, expressed the hope that when elected as MP for the constituency he would help to bring development projects to the area.
