NDC NDC Lies Exposed
SEP 22, 2015 LISTEN

It has emerged that the sod cutting for the commencement of work on the Benchema junction road in the Western Region has been done twice by the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The first one was in 2011 when the late President John Atta Mills on one of his tours to the region, cut the sod for work to start on the road; and told the people that its construction would be completed before the 2012 elections.

The second sod cutting was done by President John Mahama last week Tuesday. The Benchema road is under the supposed cocoa road programme.

During the 2012 electioneering campaign, President Mahama was said to have visited Adabokrom in the Sefwi area and told the people, “I will drive on a tarred road from Benchema junction to Debiso on my next visit to Sefwi.” But according to the residents of the area, it was a mere deception.

Kwabena Amankwah Asiedu, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bibiani Ahnwiaso constituency who revealed this, could not fathom why a sod should be cut twice for the same project.

He noted that the NDC was taking the people of Sefwi for granted because of the perception that Sefwis would always vote for the party, no matter the level of poverty and hardships in the area.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. For the past 23 years, Sefwis have been voting for the NDC; and as we speak, NDC MPs occupy six out of seven seats in the Sefwi area,” Mr Asiedu asserted.

He noted that the Sefwi area has been the food basket for the country and a source of foreign exchange earnings 'but sadly, most of the deplorable road networks in Ghana are found in Sefwi.'

He disclosed that the cocoa road programme was introduced by the NPP administration under President John Agyekum Kufuor, and roads in cocoa growing communities in the region, including Lineso, Basengele, Mframakro, Bekyewa, Gyampokrom and Bonsu-Nkwanta, had their roads asphalted.

“The Mrewa-Manse-Nkronua, Pataboso-Nkwanta-Chirano-Subri Nkwanta, Benkyema junction-Debiso-Osei Kwadwokrom, Edwinase-Nsawora-Akontombra and Sefwi Bekwai-Ashiam-Asankragwa were also awarded on contract,” he indicated.

He said that the NDC government abrogated all the contracts when it assumed office in 2009.

“We are very disappointed about the lies, ungratefulness, incompetence, mischievous propaganda and the gross disrespect for our elders and the entire Sefwi people by the NDC,” he charged.

He stated, “We are sending a strong signal to President Mahama and his NDC that no matter their level of lies, deception and propaganda, Sefwi is poised for change for positive development; Sefwis deserve better.”
