Kumawuman Needs To Sit Up!

Kumawuman Needs To Sit Up!
13.09.2015 LISTEN

I've observed for some years now that the once vibrant town of Kumawuman has now turned into a ghost town only to be filled when there's a funeral or any other event. This is largely due to power struggle in the town and also the exodus of our citizenry. It's very sad when we can't boast with our town anymore. We were once a much respected people in the Ashante kingdom but all that has dwindled because our town more or less is a shadow of its former self.

Although we are now a district capital, we are yet to feel the joy that comes with it. Largely due to corrupt people, past and present, who always put their interests first other than that of the good people. Our traditional council as it stands does not render an account of what they do to anybody.

But I want to ask a few question. Who is to blame if Kumawuman sinks more? Is it our past king or our current queen? Is it Otumfuor? Or is it our own people, whose bravery and exploits were much talked about in the past, turning into cowards? I start weeping anytime I get to the cemetery (Kumawuman barrier) because that's what our town is. From Ejisu right through to Juaben and Efiduse you see how vibrant those places are only for you to get to Kumawuman to be saddened. There's an economic boom in those towns which offers jobs for the people.

There are even luxury buses plying the Accra to Asante-Manpong route and mini buses from Accra to Efiduase. Kumawuman has a mini bus which goes to Accra only at dawn. Look at our markets then and only then will you understand my pain. I know many of you reading this have a lot of plans for our town but are afraid to do so. Well we can't wait any longer. Kumawuman is almost done for. Come back and help now. I'm proposing a plan to help us rebuild our beloved Kumawuman. Kumawuman needs to work again.

My observation is that we're not united as a people. Also, we are scattered across the globe but lack one united front. You can Google Kumawuman and see what wikipedia has on us. There are people I chat with on the internet in different countries who know they're from Kumawuman and show interest in coming but with what they see on Google, they can't. There’s equally a sizable number of people living in Ghana who have never been to Kumawuman and wish to do so.

How about thousands more whom I haven't talked to. How about those whose parents are from Kumawuman but are dead and want to trace their roots? We need to work on a developmental plan. I'm calling on all Kumawuman people both home and abroad with any skill or knowledge on how to develop Kumawuman to come on board so we can help our town go back to being an integral part of the four pillars on which Asanteman was built.

If you know any person from Kumawuman please don’t hesitate to forward this message to him/her. It won’t be an easy journey but every journey begins with a step. Together we can rebuild Kumawuman. Please don’t be left out so you can tell the generation after you that you were part of a good cause which rebuilt Kumawuman. Let’s all unite for posterity sake.

Note: If you have Kumawuman blood in you or have any idea on how we can unite our people and rebuild our town or you want your name in the history books as a part a positive change, then please send your details to [email protected] . Any idea is welcome.

Thank you and please spread the word. A movement for change has begun for Kumawuman nkoso).
