Russian Deputy Foreign Minister arrives

Accra, Oct. 6, GNA - The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr Uri Fradcov arrived in Accra on Tuesday for a day's official visit, which commences a four-nation West African tour.

Mr Alexander Belaus, Russian Head of Ministers' Secretariat, accompanied Mr Fradcov. Mr Kwasi Osei Agyei, Deputy Foreign Minister, and the Russian Ambassador, Mr Valary Orlov met them on arrival.

In a chat with Journalists, Mr Fradcov said although Russia and Ghana had a long-standing friendship, his visit was to further discover and explore more opportunities for bilateral relations.

He said Russia appreciated the immense role Ghana was playing in peace keeping within the West Africa Sub Region.

He said Russia as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, also sought to discuss with Ghana ways of solving the various conflicts within the Sub Region.

Mr Osei-Agyei said Mr Fradcov's visit to Ghana and West Africa, as a whole was most relevant adding that with the UN Security Council funding peacekeeping all over the world, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister's visit to West Africa to have better appreciation and understanding of conflicts within the Sub-Region was most necessary. Other countries Mr Fradcov would visit are Liberia, La Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria.
