Kyekyewere (Ash), Oct. 5, GNA - Mr Richard Anane Adabor, District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira in the Central Region, has said the government alone cannot shape the education policy of this nation. He therefore, called on all stakeholders to join this shared responsibility, to help promote teaching and learning.

Mr Adabor stated "education makes a man" and that "education brings progress and development". He said schools in the remotest part of the country, encountered operational problems, which those with the means should help to solve.

The DCE was speaking at the weekend, at a presentation of educational items to the Kyekyewere community to be distributed to basic schools in the community.

The items, which were estimated at 2.5 million cedis included 800 exercise books; 10 drawing boards; 4 rolls of material for school uniforms; 4 packets of pens; globes; footballs; wall charts and clocks. The donor, Mr Justice Owoahene Acheampong, a native of the town, is a teacher at the Gyarko Local Authority Primary School at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Mr Adabor said the assembly has since September 2002 to date, presented a number of dual desks to schools in many communities in the district, to enhance the District Directorate of Education's enrolment drive.

The DCE was grateful to Mr Acheampong for the items, saying, it was timely. He pointed out that the assembly has put in place measures to curb the practice where children watched video films late in the evenings and also attended funerals instead of learning.

Mrs. Patience Anima Dartey, District Director of Education, who received the items on behalf of the community, asked the beneficiaries to use them judiciously.

She also called on other patriotic citizens to contribute their quota towards the development of education.

Nana Kojo Binfor II, Chief of Kyekyewere chaired the programme. He called on the DCE to send more development projects to the area, to help open up that part of the district and to better their lot.
