C6.8bn allocated to Adansi and Amansie districts

Fomena (Ash), Oct 5, GNA- Government has allocated 6.8 billion cedis each, to the Adansi North and Amansie Central districts in the Ashanti Region for development projects.

The amount is made up of 4.8 billion cedis from the District Assemblies' Common Fund and two billion cedis from the Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) Fund.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the Regional Minister, announced this on Monday, when he addressed members of the two newly created districts at separate meetings at Fomena and Jacobu.

He noted that the resolve and commitment of people in the two districts to change their destiny for the better could help promote development.

The Regional Minister said as newly created districts, there was the need to operate within their own means and resources. Mr Boafo asked the assemblies to devise effective means to improve upon revenue generation to supplement government's budgetary allocations.

The Regional Minister, who is also the acting District Chief Executive in charge of the two districts asked the people to ensure the success of Election 2004.

Mr Kwasi Afrifah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Fomena, asked the assembly members to unite and gear their efforts towards the development of their localities.

Mr Stephen Kwarteng and Mr David Christian Ahoma, Presiding Members of the Adansi North and Amansie Central districts respectively, also stressed on the need for team work among the assembly members. Members of the two district assemblies expressed concern about the poor nature of roads, and lack of public utility services in the area.
