Mim (B/A), Sept. 1, GNA - Dr Sheikh Amin Bonsu, National Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission, has said the achievement of goodness in the world and after could be realized through the fear of Allah.

He said it was important for Muslims to be self-conscious of their duties towards Allah, live moral lives and strive to achieve economic and financial independence through hard work and firmness.

Dr Bonsu made the observation at the 10th National Women's Conference of the Ghana Muslim Mission Women's Fellowship (GMMWF) in Mim in the Brong-Ahafo Region over the weekend.

The conference was on the theme: 'Striving towards the attainment of goodness in this life and goodness in the hereafter."

He said in order to achieve success in this world alone, man had adopted several foul means such as armed robbery, corruption, adultery, and fornication, among others, forgetting that it was important to find out ways of achieving success both in this life and the hereafter.

He said the actual means of attaining goodness in this life and the hereafter was to try to understand human nature, comprising of the body, mind and soul, adding that holistic education would enlighten the mind and the soul of its purpose of existence.

Dr Bonsu said the Muslim could also attain goodness in this life and the hereafter through worship and observing the five pillars of Islam; namely proclaiming the oneness of Allah, prayers, fasting, Zakat, and performance of Hajj.

'Practicing the pillars of Islam and offering more worship and prayers will protect the soul from one level to another till it gets to the level pleasing to Allah, which is the accepted soul,' he added.

He further noted that goodness in this life and the hereafter could be attained through financial, economic and health improvement.

He urged the Muslim youth to be peaceful wherever they find themselves in the world and to avoid terror groups and avoid homosexuality and lesbianism and all social vices.

He also advised the Muslim woman to pursue education to attain greater heights in society and be part of the decision making process.

Mrs Mariama Obeng, Chairperson of the GMMWF, said the conference was to provide a forum for discussion to update the membership of their programmes and activities, achievements in terms of development and also to look at the challenges and way forward.

She said Islam expects Muslims to be successful in life and this could be achieved when Muslims educate themselves holistically to be more upright and spiritually uplifted.

'This way when we return to our maker, we can render good accounts and incur the pleasure of Allah,' she said.

Mrs Obeng said the GMMWF was formed 48 years ago as a wing of the GMM on the basis of submitting to the will of Allah, obedience to His laws and commitment to the course of Allah.

She said it was formed to bring all women in the GMM together to impact the true teachings of Allah into them as laid down in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (SAW), foster unity among them and educate them on their civic rights and above all their religious responsibilities so as to be able to change the image of the Muslim woman to commit herself to the course of Allah.

She said the fellowship has transformed the lives of many people through its weekly dawah sections in all the districts and the regions and also through its conferences, workshops and seminars to develop their skills and to be able to contribute to the social, economic and spiritual development of its ummah.

Mrs Obeng noted that the fellowship, with the population of over 500 women nationwide has a number of projects to their credit including the establishment of day-care centres, primary to Junior High Schools, girls' dormitories, boreholes, health facilities and also assisting in other community developments.
