Osu Mantse calls for peace and unity

Accra, Sept. 01, GNA - Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona, Paramount Chief of the Osu Traditional Area, has called on the citizenry to forge ahead in peace and unity for the progress of the community.

'There is the need for us to cement the peace which is currently prevailing with one accord as brothers and sisters to build a better future for our children who will eventually take up the leadership of the country,' he said.

Nii Kinka Dowuona, who is also the President of the Osu Traditional Council, made the call during the celebration of the Osu Homowo Festival and urged the people to make the education of their children their utmost priority.

The Homowo Festival is to hoot at hunger and celebrated by Ga-Dangme indigenes in the Greater Accra Region, with the sprinkling of 'Kpokpoi,' a local meal prepared with maize flour and palm oil and eaten with palm-nut soup.

The celebration usually sees the people clad in red cloths, as the chief leads the kingmakers to sprinkle the meal in various clan houses in the community, a belief of serving the ancestors for successful years ahead.

The occasion is also used to settle personal scores among family members.

Nii Kinka Dowuona said the Osu Traditional Council was setting up an educational fund to support children in the community and cautioned parents of truant children to ensure they went to school to avoid being sanctioned.

He expressed gratitude to various companies which supported the celebration of the festival.

The two-week festival, which was launched on Thursday, July 16, by Nii Kinka Dowuona, would be climaxed with a thanksgiving church service on Sunday, September 6.
