Accra, Sep 1, GNA - Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, Vice President, has presented awards to four officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who exhibited outstanding performance in the just-ended fire training programme at the GNFS Training Academy in Accra.

The awardees were Officer Cadet Ezra Kpakpo Mingle, who was the over-all best trainee officer cadet, Samuel Duodo who was given CFO awards, officer Charles Kingsley Amoh, best in Academic, and officer Mercy Quaroo-Tagoe, was best in football.

The Vice President also received an honorary honor of Chief Fire Officer, and was presented and decorated with a helmet.

Ali Jarrah, Coach of the Amputees Football National Team also received citation and a plaque for his hard work, dedication and contribution to the service.

Retired Career Chief Fire Officers also received recognition from the Chief Fire Officer.

They were Mr Samuel Valis Akyianu, Mr Emmanuel Atinga, Mr Felix Kwame Ferkah, and Mr William Brown Acguaye.

They were honoured with citations and plaques for their exemplary leadership.

In all, 165 officers were trained, out of which 58 were females, and 107 males, from Cadet In-take 11 Group, all of whom are serving officers.

They undertook training programmes comprising fire safety, chemistry of combustion, leadership and management, corporate image building, written communication, current affairs, road traffic extrication, discipline in organisation, electricity, GNFS legislation, hazardous materials, hydraulics, incident command, loss control, mess ethics, officer and society and physics of combustion.

The courses were divided into refresher, cadet and career courses meant to update the knowledge and skills of serving officers, prepare fresh university graduate and diploma holder with the requisite academic qualification and career progression.

Vice President also unveiled a plague, and cut the ribbon for the official opening of a new Officers' Mess.

Ali Jarrah, who has been in the service for 23 years, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Fire Officer, Mr Albert Brown Gaisie, for the honour done him by identifying him among his peers.

He said the amputees who will take part in a competition in Angola in November are currently preparing to win and take part in the next World Cup in Ireland.

He is a station officer at the training school in-charge of spraying of refrigerators and other things due to skills he gained as a technical student.
