Assembly elections progressing in Tamale

Tamale, Sept 1, GNA - Voting is ongoing smoothly in Tuesday's district assembly elections in the Northern Region.

All the polling stations visited by the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday did not record any incidents and voters had been trickling in to cast their votes.

Some of the polling stations visited included Central Mosque (A), Central Mosque (B), and AME Zion Kukuo Polling Station (A) in the Tamale Metropolis and the Inter Royals Polling Station in the Sagnarigu District.

At Central Mosque (A) and Central Mosque (B), two candidates are contesting to be elected assembly member for the Victory Cinema Electoral Area, four candidates are contesting the polls at AME Zion Kukuo Polling Station (A) to be elected assembly member for the area whiles two candidates are contesting the Inter Royals Polling Station to be elected assembly member for the Kalpohine Electoral Area.

Meanwhile, those standing for unit committee level at the polling stations are going unopposed as they are not up to the required number of five.

Mr Mohammed Faisal Alhassan, Presiding Officer at AME Zion Kukuo Polling Station (A) said polls began on time (7:00 am) and as of 10 hours GMT, 67 people voted out of the 662 registered voters.

Madam Grace Agolman, Presiding Officer at Central Mosque (A) Polling Station said voting started at seven hours GMT and as of 9:30GMT, 48 people voted out of the 539 registered voters.
