Sang (N/R), Sept. 01, GNA - Electorate in the Mion Constituency of the Northern Region have thronged polling centres in their numbers to cast their ballot in the ongoing District Level Elections (DLE) to choose Assembly and Unit Committee Members.

Voting was going on smoothly at all the polling stations the GNA visited in the company of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Mion, Mr Dan Makadan, while agents of the candidates were also present.

The polling stations the DCE visited included Salankpan, Jinli, Sambu and the Kpalkori where people formed long queues to cast their ballot for their favourite candidates to represent them at the Assemblies.

Mr Abdul Karim Abudu, Presiding Officer of the Sambu Electoral Area, said voting started 07:35 hours because of the arrangements and that all electoral materials were ready as at 07:00 hours.

Some 110 people had cast their ballot as at 09:15 hours when the GNA visited the centre, while others were in a long queue to cast their ballot.

Mr Dan Makadan, the DCE expressed satisfaction after visiting some of the polling stations and said he was happy by the enthusiasm showed by the electorate in the DLE, which was a manifestation that people were now getting interests in the local level elections.

He described the process as smooth and peaceful and commended the security personnel for their presence at all the polling centres.

He said he would discuss with the EC to see how best they could increase ballot boxes in some of the centres due to the large number of the electorate who complained about the limited number of the boxes.
