Media Foundation wants Stan Dogbe tamed
01.09.2015 LISTEN

The Media Foundation for West Africa has challenged the presidency to punish presidential staffer, Stan Dogbe after he attacked a journalist and destroyed his recorder.

The journalist, Yahaya Kwamoah of GBC Radio had gone to the 37 Military Hospital to report on the accident which killed Samuel Nuamah of the Ghanaian Times and injured other journalist who report from the presidency.

The reporter has declined to talk to the media because of a directive from the state broadcaster. GBC also decided not to do the story about an attack on their journalist.

Director of Radio at GBC, Affail Monney tells Joy News Dogbe “seized the recorder and smashed it”

He said the presidential staffer admitted to the action and has promised to replace it.

But the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah says replacing the recorder and apologising is not enough.

He wants Stan Dogbe punished for the offence.
He believes Dogbe’s action “definitely has some legal implications”.

Mr. Braimah observed that persons at the presidency appears to be more powerful when it comes to the law and often walk away when they flout it.

“…slap and pay; so if you are rich you can just beat anybody and if they complain you can try giving them money to go to hospital. I don’t think that should be the solution.”

Meanwhile some regional executives of the GJA in a statement last week demanded that Mr. Dogbe apologises for his action.

Stan Dogbe has declined to speak on the matter.
This is the second time in less than 30 days that calls have been made for Stan Dogbe to be punished by the presidency. When he was alleged to have leaked the document on doctors’ conditions of service in the heat of their strike, the Trade Union Congress demanded that he was sanctioned.

For Nana Wiafe Akenten III, the Paramount Chief of the Offinso Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, Dogbe deserves a sack .
