NDC Ofosu Ampofo Must Resign – NDC Executives
SEP 1, 2015 LISTEN

SOME EXECUTIVE members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema West constituency are mounting pressure on the Vice Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to resign as director of election of the party.

According to the executives, the former parliamentary candidate of the party in the 2012 general elections, who doubled as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), will not have time to help President John Dramani Mahama get re-elected and as well win the Tema West constituency seat he is seeking to grab.

The Deputy Youth Organiser of the NDC in the Tema West constituency, Sule Musah, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, said 'If Ofosu Ampofo wants to help the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama win 2016 elections, then he should step down as the director of election of the NDC before he contests.'

He explained that Mr Ampofo would not have the ample time to campaign in all the 275 constituencies in the country since he would campaign as parliamentary candidate of the NDC in Tema West, stressing that President Mahama risks losing the 2016 election if Mr Ampofo remains director of election. The deputy youth organiser was of the view that if the NDC will win the 2016 election or lose it, it depends much on the director of election.

'Either the position should be given to someone else or Mr Ampofo should maintain such a position and not contest the Tema West constituency seat since the director of election position is not an easy position,' he added. He said he was concerned about the president winning the 2016 election than the Tema West candidate winning his seat, warning that 'If he refuses to step down, we will campaign and vote against him.'

Two parliamentary aspirants of the NDC have so far picked nomination forms to contest the Tema West slot. The two—Bill Boglo-Hedo, a pensions consultant, and Ampofo, a vice chairman of the party—picked their forms last Thursday. Mr Boglo-Hedo, a 30-year-old who is also a youth activist and married with a child, was the second to pick the form after Mr Ampofo picked his.
