Act decisively to bring offenders to justice

Kumasi, Aug. 27, GNA - The Asante Youth Congress (AYC) has appealed to the government to act boldly to bring to justice those behind the recent violence at Tuobodom that claimed eight lives and left many others injured.

It said any perceived inaction could only embolden the offenders to continue to create trouble and mayhem.

Mr. Charles Wilberforce Nuako, Spokesperson, made the call at a press conference held in Kumasi.

He said there could not be any doubt that what happened in the town had chieftaincy undertones and that was why it was important to get to the bottom of it and punish anybody found to have acted illegally.

AYC, he said, found it difficult to understand how people could have the courage to set homes ablaze amidst heavy security presence.

He said they were inclined to believe that officers sent to provide security protection had closed their eyes to the defiant atrocities and that needed to be thoroughly investigated by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Mr. Nuako invited all peace loving Ghanaians to add their voices to the call to action to end the lawlessness and impunity.

They should not watch on the sidelines for the violence to escalate, he added.

AYC is an umbrella body of the various Asante youth groups - Asante Kototo Society, Asante Youth Association, Asante Students' Union, Asante Students' Alumni, Asante United Front, Asante Development Union and Asantiempaya.
