As JJ pursues the 'Elephant' in the bush; Mills hangs around NPP's 'World Bank' too

PRESIDENT JOHN Agyekum has chosen the Volta Region, home turf of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) popularly referred to as the party's "World Bank" to launch his campaign assault on the NDC by his courtesy calls and the inauguration of projects in the area.

Simultaneously, the former President Jerry John Rawlings has also planned to use his instincts and experience as a 'hunter' to track down the 'Elephant" in the bushes of the northern part of the Western Region and some parts of the Brong Ahafo Region.

President Kufuor having watched rushes of the NDC in their previous campaign strategies of commissioning projects on the eve of elections has decided to imitate them and is expected to inaugurate development projects in the Volta Region on his three-day tour of the region.

But news reports as at Tuesday indicated that supporters of the National Democratic Congress in Akatsi in the Volta Region yesterday hooted at the President whilst he was on his way to commission projects at Aflao.

In addition, Prof. Mills Evans Atta Mills, the presidential candidate of the NDC, is currently touring the Ashanti Region also known to be the 'World Bank" of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). So far, Prof.

Mills has addressed rallies at Anwiaso, in the Adansi Asokwa constituency and Obuasi as part of his five-day tour of Ashanti which was cut short last Tuesday, by his runningmate's accident.

By press time yesterday, information picked by The Chronicle indicated that the former president, who was expected to begin his tour of the Western and Brong Ahafo regions to campaign for the NDC was also likely to suspend his trip due to the accident of the NDC's presidential runningmate, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni.

Alhaji Mumuni had an accident on Tuesday dawn at the Atomic Junction in Accra, and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. The reports learnt by this paper stated that Prof. Mills' runningmate had a bone fracture in one of his legs and was responding to medical treatment.

The 37 Military Hospital yesterday was besieged with a lot of sympathizers, especially NDC gurus including the former President, J.J. Rawlings, Prof. Evans Atta Mills, and a host of others not forgetting NPP ministers and sympathizers.

President Agyekum Kufuor is currently on a three-day working tour of the Volta Region starting from Sogakope through Keta, Aflao, and Dzodze to Ho.

He is expected to inaugurate the Coastal Belt Water Scheme at Klikor, the Diamond Cement Plant and town roads, both at Aflao and the Water Project and telephone exchange at Dzodze.

According to news reports, President Kufuor is to pay courtesy calls on prominent chiefs in the Volta Region including the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Torgbi Afede XIV and the people of Asogli state and later inspect Ghana Educational Trust Fund (GETFund) projects at the Ho Polytechnic and also visit Anyirawase.

Despite these courtesy calls and inauguration of projects, His Excellency still manages to tell the people how good his government is and why his party should be given a second chance.
