Kumasi, Sept. 29, GNA- An independent Presidential aspirant has expressed concern about the Electoral Commission (EC) decision to raise the nomination fees of presidential candidates for the December polls. Mr Owusu Ankomah, said there would be no justification whatsoever to raise the amount from five million cedis to 20 millions.

He said any increase would further burden presidential candidates since besides the payment of the nomination fees, the aspirant would have to tour all the districts to have his candidature endorsed. This, Mr Ankomah, pointed out involved a lot of money not withstanding the preparations a candidate has to make towards the campaign throughout the country.

He said if the EC wanted to keep as many people as possible from contesting the presidency, it should nevertheless make provision for the younger generation who have ideas and the desire and ambition to contest the presidency.

There should be a level playing field he said for all to contest the highest political office in the country.
