EC mounts platforms for aspiring assembly members

Half-Assini, Aug. 25, GNA - The Jomoro district office of the Electoral Commission (EC) has started mounting platforms at the various electoral areas to enable aspiring Assembly and Unit Committee members present their manifestoes and messages to the electorate.

The platforms would also enable the electorate to ask the aspirants some questions on their manifestoes.

One hundred and thirteen candidates are contesting for the 34 Assembly seats in the electoral area, while a total of 223 people are vying for the 170 unit committee positions.

The Jomoro District Electoral Officer, Mr Isaac Otoo, made this known to the Ghana News Agency at the platform mounting at Half Assini.

He said a total of 11 candidates were contesting the Assembly seat at Half Assini for the three seats.

The Electoral Areas are Enosi, Adonwozo and Amanzuley.

He said three candidates, Mr Eric Kwaw Amihere, Emmanuel Erzah Armah, and Anthony Cobbinah, were contesting for the Enosi Electoral Area.

At the Adonwozo Electoral Area, six candidates, Mr Cyrus Kwame Wilson, Paul Homiah Tanoe (incumbent), Michael Bangolame Esayi, Stephen Tetteh, George Ezonle Kwame (PWD) and Lewis Agovi are in the race.

Mr Otoo said Mr Joseph Ackah and Mr Isaac Kulu Armah, both teachers were battling for the position at Amanzuley Electoral Area.

On the Unit Committee Elections, Nr Otoo said a total of 26 candidates including one woman, were contesting at the three Electoral Areas in Half Assini.

At Enosi and Adonwozo Electoral Areas, nine candidates each are contesting for the five Unit Committee seats, while in Amanzuley, eight candidates are vying for the seats.

The Electoral Officer said five candidates would be elected at each Electoral Area.

The District Electoral Officer told the GNA on Monday that so far seven Electoral Areas in the District, including Half-Assini, had been covered in the exercise that started on August 21.

The seven araes are Ekpu, Kabenlah Suazo, Effasu/Mangyea, Enzemetianu/Mpasem, Jaway-Wharf and Takinta.

He said the Commission was training over 168 Verification Officials across the District for the Election that would take place on September 1.
