Ghanass Old Students Association Honours old General

24.09.2004 LISTEN
By GHANA HIGH COMMISSION, LONDON

The Imperial Banqueting Facility in London was packed to capacity with old guards, friends and well-wishers - in it, was the star attraction, Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

The teeming crowd was there to show appreciation and recognition to him for his dynamism and drive which had turned the impossible into a reality – given life to revive the hitherto non-existent Ghanass Old Students Association.

To Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu this was an occasion to look beyond. Rightly, he seized the opportunity to praise the former Headmaster of the school who instilled in the students the kind of fighting spirit which made their quest for knowledge, unquenchable and constantly echoed the need for them to be strong, independent but yet friendly and purposeful.

Noting with appreciation the contribution and efforts of other old guards, Mr. Baah-Duodu made a passionate appeal to all members, both far and near, to sustain their alma mater which he described as a beacon of knowledge in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Said Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu “I know it is not easy to get time for the association's work but try and let it live”.

Tons and tons of praises were heaped on him in appreciation of his service to the development of the association.

H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana's High Commissioner to the UK commended Mr. Baah-Duodu for his commitment, hard-work and dedication to service and urged officers of the Mission to emulate his good works while brightening their corner for recognition.

In presenting the Certificate of Honour, Mr. Ade Sawyerr, an old boy of the school and former President of the Association, underscored the significance of the modest presentation. He said the honour was done not only to recognise his achievement as a public servant but especially for his meritorious contribution to the cause of the school.

Tribute also came from other well-wishers, including Mr. Kwame Twum-Barimah, current President of the association, who, among other things, described Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, as an embodiment of hard-work whose dedication to the activities of Ghanass would always serve as an inspiration to all old boys of the school.

In another development, the Abuakwa Susubiri Association organised a special meeting to bid farewell to Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, who may complete his tour of duty in London later in the year. Present at the meeting was among others, H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, High Commissioner of Ghana, who again praised his Deputy for his high sense of duty.

On his part, Mr. Baah-Duodu, thanked the association for the support and encouragement given him and urged them to continue to work not only for the betterment of towns and districts in the Eastern Region but for the whole country.

He declared: “With your determined effort and valued donation or contribution to laudable projects, the lives of our people can be improved”.
