Accra, Sept. 23, GNA - Mr George Aggudey, presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP), would announce his running mate in the next two weeks, Dr Edmund Delle, Chairman of the Party, said on Friday.

Dr Delle told the Ghana News Agency in an interview by telephone that the choice was not influenced by any religious or ethnic considerations because the CPP is a mass party that believes in the unity of the people.

"I can assure you that we are happy to have a veteran politician as a running mate and the choice was not on any religious or ethnic inclination. He will be made public in the next two weeks.

"The party will by then have completed its manifesto so the Central Committee will determine the date and venue for the formal launch of the manifesto and the announcement of Mr Aggudey's running mate," he said. Dr Delle said the party was not in a rush to come out with a running mate because the CPP's tradition remained unique and clear on what it should do in building a nation for generations to inherit.

He said at the moment, the leadership of the CPP was determined to encourage and project the participation of the youth and women in the party's affairs especially in this year's parliamentary elections.

This, he noted, had been one positive side in the party's primaries, which had elected over 120 parliamentary candidates. The Party hopes to achieve a target of not less than 200 candidates by the first week of October.
