Ten die in lorry accident

Sunyani, Sept 13, GNA - Ten people were killed and many others injured when a Neoplan bus run over them as they relaxed by the side of the road at Awisa, near Wenchi in Brong Ahafo Region, at the weekend. Superintendent Alexander Mensah, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Crime Officer told the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani that the victims were passengers of a Tata bus that had got short of fuel. Aziz, driver of the vehicle they were traveling on who had gone to the nearest town for fuel, the Neoplan bus suddenly appeared and run over them at about 0130 hours. The driver of the Neoplan bus did not stop and had not reported to the Police, who are searching for him. The names of the dead were not immediately given but their bodies had been deposited at the Wenchi Hospital where the injured were on admission.

The Police Officer said two other persons were killed on the spot when the vehicle on which they were traveling from Kintampo to Yara, was involved in an accident last Friday. The dead had been deposited at the Kintampo hospital and the injured on admission, Supt Mensah said.
