Lessons From The Talensi By-Election--NPP Germany
10.07.2015 LISTEN

Some of us woke up early in the morning of Wednesday July 8, 2015 to read on the e-media, the outcome of the Talensi by-election. To everyone’s genuine surprise, the NDC had recaptured the Talensi seat from the NPP. Yes the people of Talensi have decided to vote against their paramount chief's political party. Yes democracy.

What we have learnt here is that one always has to work had to improve one’s situation because no condition is permanent forever. Yes Talensi was a safe haven for NDC until election 2012.

Despite the unfortunate incidents of violence that occurred, we don’t think that the overall conduct of the polls was questionable. 8 political parties contested for the vacant seat, and the electorate was split between support for the NDC and for the NPP.

We are informed that the 2 major political parties used every means possible (fair or foul) to contest the seat. In the end, the election was decided much more by what voters were against than what they were for. Voters were against a corrupt NDC government, but this corrupt government was successful. Yes democracy?

The key to NDC's success in Talensi is not that the voters were happy with the performance of the John Mahama government, but we are informed that the NDC voters were motivated with money, food and non-food items to head to the polling stations to vote.

The national executive committee and members of NPP Germany Branch wish to thank all party members and helpers who travelled to Talensi to assist before, during and after the by-election. We are proud of you all for doing a good job for the Great Elephant Party.

To all those who were physically attacked and injured in Talensi, we wish you all speedy Recovery.

NPP Germany Branch believes that the outcome of the Talensi by-election should have no direct significance with our preparations towards our Victory 2016 campaign.

We further wish to advise all our NPP brothers and sisters to work hard and to move out of our comfort zones unless we’re happy about being second best for a long time to come. We should be more proactive in winning new members and to do much more to make our party an attractive organisation to join and become involved with.

We believe that part of this project „Victory 2016“should focus immediately on solving the Chairman Afoko and GS Kwabena Agyapong problem. The reason for electing a Chairman Afoko to grow our membership and votes in the 3 Northern Regions of Ghana is not being utilised. The sooner we solve this problem the better.

Long Live NPP Germany Branch, Long Live NPP Ghana, Long Live Ghana.
