Akoto's administration would prioritise National ID Card

Accra Sept. 10, GNA- Mr Ramon Osei Akoto, an Independent Presidential Candidate for the December Election on Friday said when voted into power, his administration would introduce a multi-purpose National Identification Card for Ghanaians.

He said the car would be used for electronic funds transfer, bill payment, general shopping and medical alert.

He said his administration would computerize all government financial records for transparency by the end of 2005 to enable every Ghanaian to have access to transparent government.

This was contained in Mr Akoto's manifesto titled "Obaatanpa". It said Ghana would enjoy free local telephone calls and one fixed rate for unlimited long distance calls anywhere in the world.

"Computer kiosks will be placed in public places in all districts of the country so that people won't have to travel for hours to get access to government information.

"The kiosks will also be used to obtain educational materials and for E-Commerce. The public computers will be designed to use touch screen technology so that it will be as easy to use as a TV and the computers will speak all major Ghanaian languages," the manifesto stated.

He stated in the Manifesto that his plan was to end poverty by eradicating corruption, bribery and fraud in Ghana using information technology.

Mr Akoto said: "I pledge that when I am elected president, I will create millions of jobs in IT, film and Television construction, medical, food processing, manufacturing, education, legal and customer service".

He said by the end of his presidential term the improvement in Ghana would be so profound that Ghana would be an economic, political and social model for the rest of the sub-Saharan Africa and "Ghanaians living abroad will want to come home for the opportunities in Ghana". Mr Akoto called on Ghanaians to vote for him to enable him show his potential and his love for the country.
